Metaxa is a Greek brand known worldwide for producing the distinctive liquor of the same name. Being part of the Rémy Cointreau group, it dynamically and authentically responds to the needs of a new generation of consumers. The world-famous liquor comes in different variants depending on the production process and its „aging” time.
The Welcome agency invited us to join the project. With them, we were able to support the client technologically in developing a new website on Shopify.
The creative agency Welcome sought a technology partner to carry out complex coding and design implementation on Shopify. Being responsible for the Metaxa project regarding UX/UI, they just approached us to lead the further stages of cooperation together.
Initial project assumptions included:
– coding the custom design provided by Welcome,
– creation of a website template from scratch, along with numerous animations and video inserts,
– further language versions of the site,
– creating a new image of the brand as modern, authentic, and fresh.
As a technology partner, we handled the implementation of the custom design by the agency and responded to the technical challenges of the project. The development team conducted synchronised activities. Which included:
Custom coding of the site from scratch:
– Basing the site on Shopify 2.0 and Shopify Plus technology as an advanced CMS.
– Implementing numerous animations, a video layer, and interactive elements, such as the „Make your own cocktail” quiz (check it out here) and the „Find your Metaxa” configurator (see), which further reinforce the user’s level of brand awareness and show the product from a new, unfamiliar side.
Translation development:
– Creation of a custom script that automatically transfers translations between Shopify instances. This avoided the limitations of the Shopify Markets platform in this regard and made different language versions of the site available to the client.
Personalising content for markets:
– Enabling differentiated content to be displayed on different language versions, such as different contest banners or local campaigns. Depending on the localisation of the language version, the content team on the Metaxa site can customise the content for their country.
Customer support:
– Provide training to the Metaxa team on how to use the Shopify Plus CMS.
– Provide complete technical documentation, training materials, and support in this area.
Working with the Welcome agency, we were able to refresh the image of the Metaxa brand through the modern design and lifestyle nature of the site. In addition, we provided advanced content personalisation, enabling local marketing campaigns in different markets.
We also created a flexible and powerful CMS, allowing the client’s team to add new content and develop the site independently. And most importantly, we prepared the site for eventual online sales, meeting both current and future business needs.
